Toddler sand play, cutting, etc.

While the older kids are at school, little El (2y4m) finally gets some one-to-one special time with Mummy.

Here’s what he’s been up to:

morning sand play: finally brought this out after a long time

pouring water while mummy’s baking

pouring

cutting with scissors: he’s doing this almost every day

montessori cutting

Initially he held the scissors upside down and cut away from the lines.

After lots of practice, he’s gotten the hang of it.

After he finishes using the printed cutting paper, I simply use blank / recycled paper (with a blank side) and draw lines using black marker pen.

Often I just need to guide him a little bit and watch out for his safety. Then he does his work while I do mine near him.

Have a great day!

  1. Hi! I do not know if my 2.5 year old is right or let handed. Could you recommend brand of scissors which is suitable?

Hi Mei, my 3 kids are right-, left- and right-handed respectively. They share the same type of scissors at home. I bought one that has a rounded tip, metal blade and a comfortable handle for both right- and left-handers. We have “deli” and “Westcott”. Both are fine. I’m sure there are other good brands around.

My left-handed child has good motor skills and uses the regular scissors quite well. I may get him a pair of left-handed scissors (blades reversed) later on so that he can see the cutting line clearly.

Usual reminder: must supervise a toddler really closely.

      All the best! 🙂
